This auxiliary tank is designed to automatically replenish the main system tanks, ensuring an uninterrupted hydrogen supply with minimal driver intervention. Simply refilling the auxiliary tank at convenience eliminates any concerns about running low on water.

Now featuring a 2-liter auxiliary tank made of high-quality plastic, the SGT248 is designed with a compact form factor that can be easily placed anywhere in the driver cabin. Additionally, the SGT248 includes 4 liters of internal water storage, providing a total of 6 liters when combined with the auxiliary tank.

A liter of water can produce up to 1,235 liters of hydrogen. For instance, the SGT248 can generate between 1.5 to 3.5 liters of Oxy-hydrogen per minute, translating to a water requirement of about one liter every six to 8 hours during continuous operation for a large engine. This means a big highway truck on a standard 16-hour journey would need approximately two to three liters of water per day, a modest amount for significant fuel efficiency gains. Saarthi systems ensure that there is no refill needed during this journey.

The Saarthi system is ingeniously designed to ensure the hydrogen generation process is both efficient and safe. Hydrogen is produced directly within the system tanks, with the auxiliary tank being exclusively for water—free from hydrogen and safe to remain open if needed. The water not only replenishes the electrolyser but also the bubbler and the flashback arrestor, which are water-based to provide assured security against flashes.

An integral part of the system, the scrubber, is meticulously designed to purify the hydrogen gas before it merges with the engine’s air intake. It works by creating steam through bubbling action, which slightly reduces water levels over time. Yet, the Saarthi system’s design allows for both the scrubber and the main tank to be refilled effortlessly from the auxiliary tank, backed by sophisticated electronics to maintain optimal water levels automatically.

For engines of larger displacement above 8 liters, multiple SGT248 systems can be installed in parallel as a single unit on the vehicle to achieve desired outcomes. Auxiliary tanks can be replaced with custom made tank by the customer as its role is to simply carry water. The cap of the tank should however be breathing and should not be shut tight.

What happens if the system runs out of water?

Saarthi systems utilize an auxiliary tank where the only place to fill water is through that tank. The standard capacity of the Saarthi-supplied tank is 2 liters, though customers can opt for a different size if they wish. Inside the system, there is an additional 4-liter capacity, making the total water used for electrolysis 6 liters. When the water level reduces in the auxiliary tank, it is visually noticeable, and it should be refilled regularly with distilled or de-mineralized water. If the water finishes in the tank, which is not recommended, the water inside the electrolyser starts getting used up.

Saarthi systems have sensors that detect water shortage inside the electrolyser and bubbler. If the water shortage in the electrolyser tank and bubbler continues for 10 minutes, the control system will trigger a shutdown command and will not allow the system to restart until the water is refilled.

Saarthi systems typically need upto 700 watts (Maximum power pull). This translated into 30 amps additional load on a 24 volts battery system on a vehicle. Based on this need, the alternator of the vehicle should be assessed and checked for the adequacy of the total load requirement. Customer should consider existing load, plus 30 amps of the load for Saarthi system and minimum of 25% to safe level of 50% spare capacity on the alternator. In case the vehicle alternator is found to be inadequate for this system, it is recommended to change the alternator with the adequate higher wattage alternator. Failing to do so might damage the alternator as well as drain out the battery frequently.

To understand calculation, a vehicle with 40 amps of existing load and 30 amps of Saarthi system load and minimum 25% factor of safety comes to about 90 amps alternator. However, it is recommended to go for 100 to 120 amps alternator for a long and smooth life of the alternator and battery along with Saarthi system.

700 watts is less than 1 horsepower, a minuscule amount compared to the actual power of a truck engine. The maximum temperature the system can reach is 90°C, after which it will automatically shut down. Sensors are installed to check for localized temperature increases, and sustained high temperatures will trigger an automatic shutdown. During installation, it is essential to provide sufficient ventilation to avoid operational issues due to excess heat.

The system is tamper-proof, and no settings can be altered except by authorized and trained professionals. Any attempt to tamper with the system may result in malfunction and void the warranty.

Depending on the complexity of the mounting process, installation typically takes 2 to 4 hours, provided all necessary support is available.

The warranty period is one year from the date of installation. The warranty will be void if any attempts are made to tamper with the system or if any water other than distilled or de-mineralized water is used.

Saarthi Systems are largely maintenance-free, except for occasional tank cleaning based on usage. Any repair needs will be handled by the dealer. Saarthi Systems track performance regularly, and servicing can be planned based on system-generated data, monitored by Saarthi 24x7.

Generally, no. However, this depends on the engine manufacturer. In the USA, the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act (15 U.S.C. 2302(C)) protects customers from having their warranties voided due to aftermarket parts unless the manufacturer can prove that the part caused or contributed to a failure. Local laws may require prior approvals, and Saarthi will ensure those approvals are in place before commercial use.
